Management of Materials with various finishes... how to do this?

Hello!

In my company we have a serious problem with some materials, which  needs to be produced with one single code but with many kind of colors and painting process.

So, this is an example:

I have the material 900000831.

This material have one data who informs which color will be painted. This information is saved on material master data on table MARA and it is a standard information. In all standard sales i'll use this information for the production process.

But, i can sell the same material in others colors, and i can't change his code and i can't create a new material for this new color.

So, my question is, there is some tool in SAP to work with this situation?

Should i work with alternative BOM's?

I'm open to listen new ideas. Thanks!
