If the query output is not coming when you run the report in the foreground, it wont come in broadcasting also. You might get a xls file in your mail but it wont contain any data in that. You can check the background job BI_BC* in the system and check the time it has run. if it has taken considerable time then you will not get the output.
So make sure that you query output works in the normal execution and then broadcasting also work.
